Widgets, Watch & Shortcuts
Most of what you want from OneHaus is a number and a short list: how many jobs are left, what is next, what is still to buy. None of that is worth opening an app for. Widgets, watch complications and shortcuts put those answers where you already look.
Home screen widgets
OneHaus widgets show counts for open tasks, upcoming events and shopping items. The large size also lists the next few of each.
iPhone and iPad: long-press your home screen, tap the + in the corner, search for OneHaus, and choose a size. Small shows your task count, medium puts tasks, events and shopping side by side, and large adds today's items with tick boxes you can tap without opening the app.
Android: long-press your home screen, tap Widgets, find OneHaus, and drag the size you want into place.
Choosing which shopping list a widget shows
If your household keeps more than one list, a medium or large Android widget can be pointed at just one of them. On Android 12 and later it goes onto your home screen counting every list, and you pick the one you want through the widget's own reconfigure option. On older versions it asks as you place it. Choose a named list, or All lists to keep counting everything together. The small widget shows your task count, so it never asks.
Lock screen widgets on iPhone
OneHaus also offers lock screen widgets, so you get the number without unlocking. Long-press your lock screen, tap Customise, choose the widget area, and pick from OneHaus Summary, OneHaus Tasks, OneHaus Events, OneHaus Shopping or OneHaus Momentum. Each works as a circle, a rectangle or a single inline line.
Apple Watch
The OneHaus watch app shows today's tasks, your shopping list and what is next on the household calendar. Tap an item to tick it off from your wrist.
Four complications go on your watch face:
- OneHaus Tasks: your outstanding household tasks.
- OneHaus Shopping: what is still on the shopping list.
- OneHaus Next Up: the next thing in your household calendar.
- OneHaus Momentum: how much your household has got done this week, and which way it is heading.
Add one by pressing and holding your watch face, tapping Edit, moving to the complications screen, and picking OneHaus for the slot you want. Tasks, Shopping and Momentum fit every complication shape, including the corner of a circular face. Next Up needs a rectangular slot, because it has a name and a time to show. Tapping a complication opens the matching screen in the watch app, so a tap on Shopping goes to the shopping list rather than the app's home.
Complications refresh on their own every half hour or so, and your phone additionally nudges the watch when a number they show actually moves, within the limits watchOS puts on how often an app may do that. If your watch has not heard from your phone for twelve hours, the complication marks itself Out of date rather than showing you a count that might be Tuesday's.
The watch app is translated into every language OneHaus supports. Calendar on the watch is part of OneHaus Pro; tasks and shopping are not.
Launcher shortcuts on Android
Long-press the OneHaus icon on your home screen or in your app drawer and you get three shortcuts straight into the app: Shopping, Calendar and Momentum. Drag any of them onto your home screen to keep it there.
Links that open the app
Tap a onehaus.app link that points at something in your household, or an invite link someone sent you, and it opens OneHaus rather than a browser. Links to the marketing site, the blog and these docs keep opening in your browser.
Tips
- Put OneHaus Shopping on the watch face you wear to the shops and you never need your phone in the aisle.
- On Android, point a widget at one named list rather than All lists. A count that mixes the weekly shop with the Christmas list is a count you stop trusting.
- The large widget's tick boxes save you opening the app at all, which is the point of them.
Troubleshooting
A widget shows nothing, or "Open OneHaus to get started" Widgets read what the app last synced. Open OneHaus once, signed in and with a household set up, and the widget fills in.
A widget is showing old numbers Widgets update on the next sync, which happens when you open the app and roughly hourly. Open OneHaus to force it.
My watch complication says "Out of date" Your watch has not had an update from your phone in twelve hours. Open OneHaus on your phone with the watch nearby, and check the two are still paired in the Watch app.
The watch app asks me to sign in The watch signs in through your phone. Open OneHaus on your phone first, then reopen the watch app.
Calendar is missing on my watch Calendar on the watch is part of OneHaus Pro. See Plans & Subscription.
